Pirarucu or Arapaima

Pirarucu or Arapaima

If you are looking for a fish that can jump as swiftly as a Sailfish, move as deftly as a Salmon, and is as strong as a Catfish, then you are definitely looking for Pirarucu (Arapaima gigas). Due to overfishing and the destruction of the Amazon rainforest, the wild Pirarucu was almost lost, and now survives only in small local populations in the heart of Amazonia. Catching Arapaima in the wild, therefore, is an experience that only a few people in the world have the pleasure to enjoy.

After many years of searching, VIP Fishing Trips are the first in the world to locate areas with Pirarucu weighing 100 kilograms and more, and you can now enjoy an encounter with this fish in an area of Amazonia that will leave you spellbound with it's beauty.

The Pirarucu is one of the world’s largest freshwater fishes, and according to Indian legends it can attain a length of 6 metres and a weight of around one tonne. Your quest will take you to Ecuador, Peru or Bolivia, however, in order to protect the population of this extremely rare fish, more information will be given only to serious candidates for the expedition.

We offer a unique experience in virgin Amazonia:

The expedition will set off into the heart of the Amazon forest with the specific location decided at the time, mainly according to current weather conditions. The search for the Pirarucu takes place in fishing canoes in forest lagoons. Each participant has his own canoe and a professional guide, who provides information on catching the fish and steers the canoe. The success of an expedition is guaranteed by Jakub Vagner, one of Europe’s most respected fishermen and an expert on freshwater giants who discovered the Pirarucu habitat during his travels. Furthermore, he is the official IGFA world record holder in the  "All-Tackle" category for catching a Pirarucu in 2008 measuring 249 cms and 130 kgs (286 lbs 9 oz). Thanks to his leadership, advice and experience it is guaranteed that during  this unique expedition you  will locate this fish.

The chances of catching a large Arapaima are best in the early morning and late afternoon. During the day, when the fishing is not as fruitful, you can devote your time to catching other interesting species of fish (Peacock Bass, Redtail Catfish, Trahira, and of course Piranhas). The expedition also includes other attractions as well. The environment in which fishing takes place is not a traditional tourist destination. You will see the kind of nature that you have only read about in adventure novels or seen in documentaries. In addition to fishing, you will get a unique opportunity to get acquainted with the nature of Amazonia and its unique flora and fauna. As guides, you will have local Indians whose lifestyle has not changed much since pre-european days. They can introduce you to the secrets of natural medicine, teach you how to procure food or drinking water in the forest, demonstrate to you how to make the currare poison, and teach you to fish with spears and blowpipes. Thanks to VIP Fishing Trips, you will not only get to catch one of the world's rarest and largest freshwater fish, the Pirarucu, but also experience an environment that you will not forget for the rest of your life.
